The House of Usher

Well, not really. It's actually the Vanderbilt mansion, but I thought the tree shapes and gathering darkness gave it a forboding look. A 35mm photo with my Canon AE1.

Good job Conrad. Very nice feel to it. #18186Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019
It does have a somewhat foreboding look, Conrad! I wonder how it would photograph at night with a long exposure - it just seems like it would make a great nightshot subject! Great composition, lighting, shapes and sky!Cathy :) #39489

Thanks, Penny, Jeannie, and Cathy for your comments. I liked the way the sun hit the mansion while everything else was in shade when I took this but was afraid the contrast might be too great. I think it works okay though since it creates a certain mood. Haven't tried any night time exposures yet since I'm a probably too conservative to do much experimentation, but I think I should try to expand my horizons.Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019
I don't know, Conrad... I checked out your gallery, and your photos are wonderful, and creative - I can definitely see night time exposures becoming a viable part of your photography!Cathy :) #39638

What a stunning gallery youo have here however this photograph has to be one of my favorites! Exquisite! #5972582Conrad L. Conero May 24, 2008
Thanks, Candice. Used to have a premium gallery, but I wasn't taking enough photos with my film AE1 to justify it, so I downgraded. Now that I've got the digital D40, I've accumulated over 140 photos in my gallery and should probably think of upgrading again to be able to display more of them. #5973064Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
