Description

Helmcken Falls, Wells Gray Park, BC - Canada's 4th highest waterfall at 463 feet. I took this shot from the spray soaked platform - it was very loud!

How did you keep your camera from getting wet?? You're daring! It paid off though, nice shot. You gotta love the majesty of a waterfall. #18039

I can imagine the thunderous roar of the water you must have heard from this lovely image Cathy! Very cool waterfall! #39026

One of the situations where one can just stand and stare... I can hear the thunder!

What else can I say than that this is a real beauty: I almost hear the sounds you describe Cathy! #39036

There you go again.....another beautiful waterfall!

To bad we can not include audio with our images :) Can you imagine?! #39054

Thank you Denyse, Kevin, Jeannie, Heather, Birdie, Cees and Lorraine, for all your nice comments! It was really thunderous!

Denyse: I kept my hat over the camera and lens, then pulled it away for each shot.

Birdie: I stayed there for a long time after taking pictures, just breathing in the air and enjoying the beautiful scenery! I was all alone there, pretty rare with all the busloads of tourists, but I had arrived on a late summer night, and the buses were finished by then.

Lorraine: It would be cool to have audio with our images, to hear the roaring waterfall, crashing surf, twittering birds, buzzing mosquitoes (okay, scratch that last one!). So, you're getting more snow? Things are still bare and dry here - we're breaking all kinds of records with our spring like weather. The flower bulbs are getting confused, the bears think it's time to emerge, and the birds just haven't left! It's been such an easy winter so far that I'm afraid of what's around the corner!

Nicely done, Cathy. Have you seen the photo of the mountains in North Frasier Valley by Leah submitted yesterday? You certainly have some beautiful scenery to photograph in BC! #39122

Beautiful shot Cathy! Brings back clear memories of being there. Yes it's a really LOUD place isn't it :) #39162

Thank you Lem and Clifton!

Lem: You are so right - that photo of Leah's is beautiful!

Clifton: So, you have seen Helmcken Falls in person? Cool! It was loud, but so beautiful. I went to Dawson Falls too, which is like a little Niagra, but by the time I got there it was almost dark, so I didn't get any photos, and I didn't have any camping gear to stay overnight. For the time I spent there, it was wonderful, and I'm planning on going back this summer!

Just another thought that came to my mind: Good photos have the sound implemented...

This is beautiful, Cathy. From your description, I'd like to see a photo of you taking the shot on the platform! :) #39213

Cathy this is just so gorgeous! Excellent shot of a wonderous place...I was there a number of years ago and remember it's beauty so well.

Lol...I keep a plastic shower cap in my camera bag (the kind you find in hotel/motels. #39264

Cathy M. Gromball May 27, 2019 0

I guess that's true, Birdie - if you can "hear" the sound of the waterfall when you look at the photo, the sound is implemented!

Thank you Kathleen and Carol! I was so glad the platform had rails all around, because it was a bit dizzying being up high and seeing all that moving water! I actually cheated and used my bean bag for this shot with cable release. I positioned the beanbag on the rail.

Carol: That's a cool idea about the plastic shower cap - I keep some weird things in my camera bag, but hadn't though of that! I just used my baseball cap.

I have a wonderfull feeling with this picture, like I been on your side when you shooted it !!

People hear the sound and I can see the water goes trough my screen and fill my desk.

Bravo !! #39293
