RRS Discovery
Uploaded: July 13, 2008
Discovery was the last wooden three-masted ship to be built in the British Isles, and was launched on 21 March 1901 into the Firth of Tay, Scotland on her journey to the Antartic, captained by Robert Falcon Scott accompanied by Ernest Shackleton. She was built in Dundee by Dundee Shipbuilders so it seems very fitting that she is now back in Dundee as a tourist attraction.
Mel, Vicki and Avril all guessed the captain, well done girls.

Your series was outstanding Lynne, and this is an awesome capture of the ship! It reminds me of the SS Balclutha, which is berthed in San Francisco. Toured it many times while I was living there. Those old sailing vessels are amazing and incredible! Can you imagine, being out at sea for months on end in one of those?? Oftentimes, the captains took their wives and even kids along. They were nothing if not adventurous. Thank you for the tour! #6176490Bill Knaps July 14, 2008
