I took this with my 17-40L lens at f8, 1/125 This was taken in Raw mode so I did post process in CS.

I’m going to skip your birds’ shots since there is nothing I can critique about them. They are just great.

This horse on the other hand is an uninteresting picture. Light doesn’t help at all.

It is sharp, and well exposed but just that. Your lens is suited for a different kind of shot. Go for the 17 mm, use the corral to lead the viewer to the horse or try a lower angle.

Ditto and, in the future, you might also try a long, fast lens, back off a bit and fill the frame with the animal's head at a wide f-stop to throw the background out. Also try many different angles and always pay attention to your background.

Most of your other images are pretty right-on.
