Many thanks. I especially appreciate your comments presented as a critique as well as a compliment. The idea was for presentation, to crop without actually cropping. I like the Olympus E-510 and my first Olympus E-300 was great. They both have a lot of nice features I've yet to learn. #5947489Sherry King June 11, 2008

Of course, I'd be happy to share the process. I did this in Photoshop Elements. Change your original background to a layer then duplicate it. Create a new blank layer and move it between the duplicates. On the blank layer create a rectangular selection and add a drop shadow from layer styles. Clip the top duplicate layer to the new layer with the rectangle. Then on the original layer, desaturate and make any desired adjustments. The blank layer with the rectangle acts as a mask and by "clipping" the top layer to the masking layer, it doesn't affect the bottom layer. Try experimenting with variations on the process.
