Description

A regal red-shouldered hawk sitting on top his world, surveying his kingdom. I rounded a corner and was surprised to see this hawk perched so close. It was backlit (in a very bad way) as the sun was setting, so I had to make my way around and get a sidelit shot, hoping it would stay put.

f/5.6, 1/640, ISO 100, AWB, spot, lens Canon EF 400mm L, south shore of Lake Apopka near Orlando, Oakland Nature Preserve, 3/9/2008.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 1.00, ExposureTime: 1/640 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

WOW! This is a fanTAStic shot. How many mice did you offer this hawk for posing so perfectly!!!!! I love way the light hits the plummage, plays up the red shoulders and then pops out the variety of all the other color pattern. This is so pleasing against the brilliant blue background. What a great shot for field ID on the red shouldered hawk. #921221
