This was taken from the railway carriage as we crossed over the new bridge ,the old one was washed away in a huge flood and part of the old bridge is what you can see in the river,The journey runs from Strahan to Queenstown and passes through the a small part of the world heritage Area.A majestic area.

Thank you all for the lovely replies ,it certainly was a great ride and so informative on the history,the red brown colour in the river is the toxins from the mines upstream,nothing lives in the river as yet and it will be many many years before it is cleaned up,the discharges have stopped a long time ago,apparently the river used to be so red ,but nature is healing it but SLOWLY.it was a 4hr journey but so wonderful. #5809768
