Description

I met the nicest couple today walking the trails. After chatting a while, they warned me to watch out for an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake they encountered. Thankfully, I didn't see it. BUT, THEY DIDN'T WARN ME ABOUT THE PYGMY RATTLER I darn near stepped on. These guys are problems because they are hard to see and their rattles are small and hard to hear. For somebody like me watching the sky for that next bird-in-flight photo and not looking down, they can be more of a problem. Of the six poisonous snakes in Florida, this pit-viper presents the least risk for fatalities, but is known to be aggressive.

Hi Michelle and Linda. The neat thing in photos is you see more than you do live since you can inspect without fear. You would never notice the blue color on the sides of the body and head in person. Getting the tongue in this photo was a bonus--didn't even know I had that until I got home. It might look big and colorful here, but under leaves and stuff, nearly impossible to see. Most people have walked by them on trails and never even knew it. #5798249
