Well....I have posted before but considering the activity of Better Photo, and the quality of my images, no one commented about them.

Anyhow...here's a portrait.

Have a great day. #183020

First one Ive seen. Nice but too dark. Should have used a little fill flash. #875983

Personally, I like the "darkness" of the shot. Without any fill-in flash, I think the photo seems more "rich" and elegant, and there is a certain "mood" that is set by it, one of dignity and real class. Everyone will see a photo from a different perspective, and this one seemed to hit a positive chord of response in me. Thanks for a great shot. #876187

Thanks John and Michael.

I'm a creature who loves darkness, and trust me: most of my images are darker than this shot.

There are a lot of possible excuses for the darkness of Thelma's portrait like mood, not to disturb the public or the players, o just that I don't know how to use fill flash.

Thank you both.
Regards
Protacio

P.D. There's a new one....even darker...do you mind looking at it?

It does look nice with the dark-ish theater setting, but what I think I mean is that the music page is hurting you. If it were illuminated a little where it could be seen as the music sheet, it would tie together better. Rite now its kind of a black block. I said fill flash cause hopefully that would add a little, but not blow too much light all over it and ruin the mood #877359

Protacio Serna October 29, 2004

Here's a detail of that part John. Actually the folders the quartet use are glossy (to shiny for my personal taste). Just another reason to be careful with the flash.

It is a folder they made with their portraits and for a moment a thought about burning all those details, and just leave the word "Reynosa" (my hometown) to give a sense of location.

I just don't like doing that, so a left it as you see it.

Thanks again.

Oh I know what was in the shot wasnt your fault, but the average joe is going to notice the black square. Like me they will know its a score, or something, but it is kind of intruding on you a little. I think if you had got enough light to really see Reynosa it would have been a plus. But there we are you know, difrent strokes! #877437

Bob Fehringer October 29, 2004

Protacio,
You might want to try a little more drastic cropping, say around where the little arm on the music stand intersects with the larger black image. That would draw the attention more to the girl's face and away from that black void.

Have fun.

I think you're right.

Something like this?

Protacio Serna October 30, 2004

I tried at the instersection but it seems to tight. So I cropped a little bit below that point. #879205
