Description

This otter, one of a pair, seemed to be having a lot of fun submarining around under the water, but every so often, they would stick their heads up and check out the landlubber pointing that camera in their direction.

Hey Robert,
Another awesome Otter picture. Great capture, it's almost like you were in the water with that playful little fellow.
I've been to Orlando several times and never once have I thought of it as having such wonderful nature preserves. It's just a big city to me. You've made me look at that area a little differently now.

Thanks for visiting Jennifer and Kevin. Jennifer, like most cities, the locals have the advantage in knowing the "secret little places" and there are a lot of them. For photographers, there are a lot of state and county parks. I live on the edge of an 8,000 acre beauty--Wekiwa Springs State Park--where 42 million gallons of clear water bubble up daily to feed the Wekiva River. There is a National Forest to our west, a National Wildlife Refuge to our east and a National Wildlife Refuge to our north. Next time when you fly into Orlando and have a window seat, look down and you will see that there are massive numbers of lakes. Of course, you can just look me up and I'll take you on a photo tour! :) #5708550

I actually live about 1 1/2 hours north of Orlando but I only know Orlando because of the amusement parks. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by the Cross Florida Greenway and the Silver River Park. I have enjoyed many wonderful nature walks in both of these locations and several boat rides on the Silver & Ocklawaha Rivers. I think we are both very lucky to have such wonderful areas to wander around in and take pictures.

That's really nice up there, Jennifer. Once one starts searching on the web, you can find more photo op places than you could imagine--that was the case for me. You are right--we are lucky, not only for the neat places, but Florida is a key migration route in the spring and fall and home to many migrant species in the winter. Next time I go to a theme park, I'll have a new perspective (my new camera). #5712829

A great shot!!! What a close up!! I want to reach up and check MY whiskers!!! But then I remember...I'm not in the water...and just a person still. Wonderful job, Robert. I love photos that bring the viewer into a new world! Splash!!! #5922430

Otters sure are fun to watch. This pair was difficult to frame the way I wanted. They would not pose in a pair, yet one would always be screwing up the composition of the other. It was hard getting just one by itself. They live in a gorgeous marsh so that's cool. #5981406
