I photographed this gull that was working in the surf off Miami's South Beach looking for some shrimp or crap for it's breakfast. They seem to use their webbed feet to balance themselves as they hoover just above the water's surface as they probe for their prey and then kick to help regain altitude. I made some minor adjustments using Apple's iPhoto. Enjoy!

ANOTHER GREAT ACTION AND WILDLIFE SHOT MICHAEL #5667458Eivor Kuchta March 20, 2008
Great timing, and a wonderful composition. I like the details of water around his feet. You got the light on that spot, and froze the motion of water with the fast shutter speed. Hope your lens is okay. There's an awful lot of salt water drops flying around. #5667590isabel C. Zepeda March 20, 2008

Great photo Michael! Wildlife can be soo hard to capture. #5676477Michael S. Lazarus March 22, 2008
Thanks Christine for the comment on this one. Yep, wildlife photography is a challenge. Perhaps the D40 lacks some of the genetics to excel in this arena (frame rate, autofocus performance) but it can do the job with patience. The right lens has a big impact as well. #5680548Aimee C.
