Fall on Lake Superior
Uploaded: October 14, 2004
Taken mid afternoon under cloudy skies which I think always makes the changing trees more colorful.

Somewhere between Munising and Whitefish Point. I was with my brother and his wife and my brother always takes back roads and gets me lost. I do know that facing in the other direction there is a dune that the loggers used to slide their logs into the Lake. I'm going to submit that photo tomorrow. Why do you ask? Do you know the area? #841692Susan C. Barnes October 14, 2004
I live in lower Mi. about 60 miles south of Lansing. I love the UP and Lake Superior area. I go up every fall for a color trip with my brother. I've only been up there once in the winter, that was last year, but the water was very blue than also. As a matter of fact my brother and his wife took their motorhome to MN. this past summer. First trip for them and they loved it. Said it was one of the most beautiful states they had seen, so I envy you. I've only had my camera since March but I'm ready for a better one. My zoom is ok but I'd like more capability than I have. As far as software I have PS7. Its fun to play around with but theres nothing like taking the picture that does not need to be enhanced. Thats when you pat yourself on the back and say "Maybe I'm finally getting this". I'll check out your sight and see what you have done. Sue #841735Susan C. Barnes October 14, 2004
No, I wouldn't touch the color. The way the sun is hitting the water it should be dark. If you notice in my pic it is cloudy, this adds to the color of the water and adds contrast. I'm still learning what light is all about but colors seem to pop when there is less sunlight and I find the best time is in the late afternoon to early evening or on cloudy days. Try it and see what happens. The photo with the "splash" I think shows the true nature of the Lake. I love it. #841764Cathy Barrows October 14, 2004

WOW! Sure looks like a beautiful place to go Susan! Pretty waters and sky and great framing!! Outstanding! #841963The easily accessed "Log Slide Overlook" is a must see if you are touring the Pictured Rocks and the Grand Sable Dunes.
Very nice shot Susan! Bummer about the 60 mph winds. Perhaps there would have been more leaves.

Thank you Jon for letting me know where I was (Ha). I get so carried away by the scenery up there I don't pay attention to anything else. You are right about the Log Slide Overlook. I couldn't remember the name of it. If you look in "Landscape" today, I have submitted a photo of the Log Slide dune where they rolled the logs down. Both photos were taken the same day, same time. Are you from Mi? Thanks again for your comments and for pointing me in the right direction. #843703Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
