Sunrise on a New Year

Description

I took this image from the balcony of my best friend's condo in North Miami, FL which overlooks the intercoastal waterway. After having a wonderful dinner prepared by his artist girlfriend and watching a movie "The World's Fastest Indian" staring Anthony Hopkins (which was GREAT), I crashed on his couch looking forward to the motorcycle ride we had planned for the morning. I was awakened by Bud my friend's cat who wanted to be fed AT 5:00 A.M.!!!!!! (so really he deserves the credit for this opportunity). Factoring in the futility of his quieting down if I continued to ignore him and maybe catching a nice sunrise, I got up. The new year's eve fireworks which were the reason I brought the camera in the first place were duds and the shots I got were worse, so redemption laid in wait as the morning was unusually foggy and cool. I cropped and adjusted the image with Apple's iPhoto. Enjoy!

Breath taking , I wish I could wake up to such a beautiful sky every morning . But alas in Pittsburgh we don't have too many sunny days , so I'll just have to enjoy your capture ! #5499986

Kathy, thanks for the nod on the orientation I chose. I also have one in the landscape mode in my gallery taken at dawn. I thought this scene would show better in the portrait orientation as the sun is a focal point that I could apply the rule of thirds too. I also wanted to capture the blue sky with it's higher altitude wispy clouds. #5501460

Michael- Sunsets & sunrises are so... hard to capture. I only have a few that where I actually captured their beauty. You have done a nice job here. I wish it was in a landscape orientation because I want to see more of the illuminated cloud in the upper right. It just looks so beautiful & inviting! You image leaves me asking for more! #5525467
