Night Glow

Uploaded: September 29, 2004

Plano Texas, at night from the balloon festival. The balloons are tethered and inflated so that they glow against the night sky. 70-200mm F4L on a tripod, mirror lock-up. From a distance to compress several balloons on top of each other.

The colors are great! It must have been breathtaking to witness all that color and man-made majesty!
The way the balloons cascade brings your eye down to the lower right corner, where the colors are the darkest. That's very satisfying, weight-wise.
Why did you lock up the mirror? (Curious re: technical stuff)
Thanks, ~cam #874255

Response for Claudia:
I used the mirror lockup because I was shooting with a long lens and wanted to remove as much of the vibration from the mirror moving as possible. This normally isn't a problem but for slowish exposures (like at night) with longer lenses, it can be. I used mirror lockup and a remote release to take the shot. #874322
