I have empathy for your dog and can feel the cold temperature and the ice in his paws and how it hurt. Dogs can get frost bite just like people.

When we lived in Wyoming, our dog was out for a very short time in the winter and I was always watching for her at the door to hasten her return to the warmth of the house.

I once had a dog who was missing the tip of one ear; although I'll never know for sure, I always suspected that it was lost to frost bite. Before I adopted her, she'd been kept outside. My dogs are never out without me. Even with a fenced yard, I am always outside with them. #5729215

Melinda -- I just LOVE it when this particular shot comes up in my email. This is just such an amazing shot that shows the true emotion that animals possess and I'm glad to hear that Peabody's photos are helping others get in touch with what an animal's love and devotion is all about. I would love to train Sampson as a Therapy dog and may look into this. I know it takes a lot of hours and maybe I could do this over the summer. How long did you train for this with Peabody. I know you still must miss him like crazy. We never quite get over our loving companions....Nor should we. They will always be a part of us. #7408521

Peabody had a basic obedience class before taking the Therapy Dog test. Honestly, passing the test has more to do with a dog's basic personality than anything else. I have had 3 dogs who were certified as therapy dogs. I currently have one who has had tons of training but she would NEVER pass the test--she is overly friendly, lol! Good luck with Sampson; it's a lot of fun to do. #7408573
