Into The Light
Uploaded: September 16, 2004
aperture f 5.6, shutter 1/125, lens 70mm, location- my back yard. I tried the macro lens, but the grasshopper wouldn't let me get close enough. I also tried to get more DOF, so more of the grasshopper's body would be in focus.

I really like this shot. The composition is great. I saw one of these "leaf bugs" the other day, but I didn't have my camera with me. Leason learned, always carry your camera. #169414Rob Friedman September 16, 2004 0
Wow--very cool shot Gunther! The colors, lighting and detail are outstanding! #784960Gunther Allen September 16, 2004 0
Thanks Rob and Michael! When I saw this green guy on almost the same color of green leaf, I knew that I had to find a spot with dramatic lighing to make him stand out. As he started moving from the shadows into the light, I managed to catch him, and all the compositional elements fell into place. I doubt I could of staged it better! :-) #784997

GREAT macro capture. Good luck with this excellent entry!! #785506Gunther Allen September 17, 2004 0
Thank you Wendy, Kathryn, and Dan. I appreciate the encouragement and praise. I'm not too worried about the recognition, because I shoot for my own enjoyment. I do however try to increase my knowledge, awareness, and creativity. By seeing other's work, as well as going to as many art/photo exhibits as I can - I hope to get better as an artist. A quote by Ruth Berhardt seems to apply with what I tried to accomplish in this photo: "If you are not willing to see more than is visible...You won't see anything at all" I tried to look beyond taking a picture of an insect, and tried to focus on the composition and the element of light to make a basicly green on green photo come to life. #786008

Thank you Linda! I'm glad that it was helpful. I am still learning by continuing to take classes, and also viewing people's work on betterphoto. I also have started a photo of the day web site that I hope photographers will use to exchange their talents, info, and tips for the begginers and the more experienced. #806212Vladimir Azarian September 27, 2004 0
Very good macro. Sorry, but the right part of the picture if I were you I would cut, because from my point of view that part a little bit distracts. With best wishes and good shots in future.Donna La Mattino Pagakis September 27, 2004 0
