Joni Earley December 17, 2007

Really beautiful image, Ellen. If it wouldn't take too long, and you can remember, what filters/techniques did you use to accomplish it? #5218426

Ellen Powell December 17, 2007

Hey Joni, Thanks so much!! Ok, here's what I did (in Photo elements 4.0). It was basically made out of made 2 layers. (There was a third layer just to fix one of the gems stones in the horse's bridle.) To the bottom layer I added Accented Edges filter in Photo Elements and made it pretty extreme. It made the horse very shiny. I saturated the second layer, playing with the hues/levels of saturation/ and making it a little darker to try to get a rich color. I then used the Extrude filter on that layer, making both of the numbers 75 and choosing pyramids (not blocks). Then I saturated that to make it as rich and bright as possible. Then I lowered the opacity of it so the bottom layer could come through- maybe to 71% opacity- something like that.

I wanted those gem stones in the bridle to shine through from the bottom layer, so I used the eraser to get rid of them on the top layer. I discovered that one of the gem stones in the bridle got "uglified" by the Accented Edges so I copied one of the other ones and replaced it. Voila! I was pretty happy with the outcome. I have Steve Harrington to thank for the idea of using the eraser tool to have things from a bottom layer show. Thanks again, Steve! #5220644

At first glance It all just sort of melded together but it did catch my eye and I took a second look and really like the look and the camouflage horse. #5316285

Ellen , I just read you little song about the lady bug you used to sing as a kid. We used to sing the same one in French but we sang it about the snail, asking it to show us it's horns.Wonder where that came from!!! What a thing to tell a lady bug or a snail,eh,,hahahaha!!!

Exceptional colors & effects on this most creative image!!! Fantastic job on this, Ellen!!! #5554687

Ellen Powell February 26, 2008

Some of these childrens' songs are very dark. For instance,

Ring around the rosy (the sore on the skin caused by the Plague)

Pocket full of posy (to ward off the smell of death with so many people dying everywhere and not being able to get them buried fast enough

ashes ashes we all fall down (self explanatory)

Thanks for your kind compliment. :)

Jean-Pierre, How nice of you to come by my gallery and give me a compliment! I've just printed this image and it mostly fills a 24" x 18" piece of paper. It looks pretty good. It's for someone I am trading services with- so it will be going on Thursday. :( #5629931
