On Edge #4

Uploaded: August 29, 2004

Description

This is the fourth in my modeling series of model Melissa Rose. Here we tried for an edgy, gritty feel...don't know if we succeeded. Converted to B&W, tweaked levels and added grain. F4,1/60,ISO200

Very nicely Done Wendy!Love the worn chair, and the B/W lends an edgy feel!Since I shoot film I'm always trying to get rid of 'grain' Ha!

I think you nailed it. I like the way she is sitting in the chair, and the way she is looking up. #742780

i like this shot alot Wendy, altho I think your pretty model looks more contemplative than "edgy". However, the graininess is very cool with the B&W!!! #743234

Thanks for your feedback Colleen and Cindy. The model looking disheveled and tense is about as "Edgy" as can I muster. I definately cannot do "Edgy" in the "deviantart.com" way...it just isn't in me. But this was my best attempt. :o) Does the expression on the other pic I've uploaded look any
"edgier" than the first? There is no grain added...just wandering about the expression. #743238

Colleen Braun August 29, 2004

I would say the expression is in the midst of a serious thought #743301

Very nice Wendy, love the pose, I also like the shot without the grain for a high key look. #743789

Hi Wendy, I love both shots! Love her pose in the chair! And the peeling paint on the chair! I think the expression, looking into camera, on second one is more "edgy." Add the grain and you got grunge going on. The only thing you might have done differently to get a more "edgy" look, in my opinion, would be to get some strands of hair in her face. And of course the dark eyeliner around her eyes. But that may be farther than you want to go. She's beautiful, and I think these are wonderful just as they are. The first one feels more thoughtful to me, with her looking up. Just my two cents. I love them both!!

Great portraits both of them Wendy. I think that the first is the more flattering of the two of an absolutely gorgeous model!
You probably find the same as I when posting grainy shots with a maximum short-side of 500 pixels. You just don't see a fine grain. It then becomes tempting to bump up the grain in the posted shot just to make it visible - which is not always effective.
Love it.
