Thanks birdie! Do you think it is out of focus? #18448

Thanks Damian. I'm amazed at how quickly these flowers change. I took this earlier this week and these were the first flowers coming out. Now the whole bush is covered with blossoms in all stages. #18460

Sorry for the delay, Carol. On my screen it seems to be just a tiny bit out of focus. Don't want to sound clever here, but maybe it got simply blurred when you pressed the release button. With this kind of macros it is always a good idea to use a tripod and the selftimer with at least three seconds delay. If you shoot with an SLR, the same applies. Prerelease the mirror also. This makes the difference!
Don't forget to shut the eyepiece to keep off exra light when using the selftimer! Macros need a tripod, sometimes it is hard to use with butterflies or dragonflies, but if possible I do.

I forgot: Avoid windy days outside! With f 16 or 22 or 32 exposure times can get pretty long. Never close a lens fully with macros. The best for say a 32 macro lens will be f 16 or so! There's even a formula to find out, I don't remember, sorry. #18893

Thanks for all the information. I appreciate it. I think you are right about what happened. I don't know why I have such a resistance to using my tripod. I guess it just seems too inconvenient. After I work with it more maybe I will be able to use it easier. One good thing is that I have a remote release for my digital so that should work well. (Is that as good as the self-timer? It also has one of those.) I didn't know about not closing the lense with macros--thanks for sharing that.
