Blur applied, desaturated and then the original layered on top.

Thank you all for the comment thus far.

I think the thing that made this pic as attractive as it is was the cropping. It was a lot taller and wider so the kicker was quite small in frame. Having the large amount of open space on the right adds a lot to the aesthetics of the shot as well, I feel.

In all honesty, until I “fixed” the pic, it was mediocre at best. :)
