Hi Holly, just a quick thought, try a more natural less contrived pose which can make all the difference. Also maybe play with your white balance to allow for a more 'warm' skin tone as the blue hues look cold and unflattering. The model has beautiful eyes and lovely flowing hair so I would try to get in close and have her look into the lens or drape her hair over her shoulders which can add a nice texture to the shot.Anyway good luck and I hope you give these ideas a whirl with pleasing results.Cheers! I like the pose , because it's not all about the face . This could be a great jewelry Ad . I think it's well done , I wouldn't change a thing ! #4996703Jason A. Hall October 28, 2007
Hi Joan,it's great that we can all see different things in the same shot don't you think? I really like your close up portraits like 'being Marilyn' and 'Shawna'which really show off the eyes(windows to the soul).I must say though that I do have a problem with portraits having bluegrey hues as I relate these colours more to a corpse than a vibrant beauty but each to their own eh.JH. #4996777Joan Powell October 28, 2007
Jason , you don't have any portraits in your gallery , so Holly and I can compare ours to yours . Maybe you could show us an example . Joan #4996858Jason A. Hall October 28, 2007
Joan,I have been a fulltime wedding photographer for the past 12yrs and have shot over 330 weddings-an awful lot of bridal portraits etc.Having said that I am really interested in improving my landscape images here which is why I don't have any people pics on display, but I will bang one or two up soon which will hopefully be helpful...that's assuming comparisons ever are.JH. #4997560Holly Hitchcock October 29, 2007
Hello to you both and a hearty debate. Joan, thanks for your kind words. Your zealous support is appreciated.Jason, you are right that the viewer always brings his/her eye to seeing any image. If bracketed with positive comments, suggestions are easily helpful or dicarded by any photographer.
In the case of this portrait, I especially like the off set line her arms draw across the page. The single heavy bracelet balances the weight in the composition. Her side cast eyes, shy and dreamy, give just a hint of the beauty they hold. For me the photographer, it expresses the essence of the young woman she is. It is by design and makes this one of my favorite shots from this shoot. The tones on the cool side create perhaps a bit more sophistication or night feel, when light is more blue in color. Though, as you say may not please all.

Hi Holly, Like very much this lovely portrait...I was reading some opinions and I'd said that the tone is perfect for me (not all portraits have to be warm or softer) about the pose maybe (just maybe) looks not so natural but still a VERY GOOD one, also is just matter of taste I like the overall concept SO MUCH as the image itself...congrats :)))) #5009701virafoto - November 10, 2007

Hi Alexandra!! Thank you for your comments. This is one of my all time favs! #5645359Susana Ms Heide September 21, 2009
I browsed through your gallery and, even though there are so many exceptional images, I was most drawn to this portrait! When I read the comments I started to second guess my initial impression. But I after enlarging it once again I still like it just as much! It definitely does look a bit "stiff" or posed but for some reason it works for this particular image. Great work Holly! #7968945Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
