Yes, my heart breaks to think of them many who lost their lives today. It puts things in perspective. Hope all are well with you and yours. Col #1086

I agree a beautiful portrait. You have many on your website as well. What type of equipment do you use? if you don't mind my asking. #1089

Thank you. I've rented lots of different cameras for my photo shoots. That shot was taken with a 35mm (not sure of brand) with a 300 telephoto 2.0f lens (bright and fast). I've also shot with the Pentax 6x7 and 6x4x5. I've also used the Contax 6x4x5.
The lenses and larger format films look beautiful for prints, but you can get just as beautuful shots with a standard 35mm camera, but a good lens makes a big difference.

For the most part, I try to keep my shots simple and clean and use natural light when possible. (Photoshop also helps in editing the final shot for contrast and retouching).

Film type and format are also factors. I try to shoot professional slide film at 100 ISO, if I have nice light, which keeps it from being too grainy, but would not go above 400 ISO for closeup people shots.

My favorite cameras are the 2 Canon cameras I own- an AE 1 Program (manual)with several standard lenses, and the EOS 10s with a 70 - 210 zoom, 2.8f.

Hope that helps. :) #1090

Thank you Colleen for the info. Your work is certainly beautiful!! What type of training do you suggest for a person who would like to accomplish photographs like yours? #1098

Well...i've always been a photo buff and had been shooting for a long time, but had never really shot people until a couple of years ago. I think it takes practice, familarity with your equipment, and making your subjects feel comfortable. I've taken basic photo classes, but really, have learned on my own. I met a fellow photographer a couple years ago and we shot together and I learned most of what I know from him. Having a partner really helps. Other than that it's just practice, practice, practice... get out there and shoot. Of course, for every 30 pics, you might get one exquisite one, so don't get discouraged by setting too high of expectations. Good luck and send me email to colleen_m_walsh@hotmail.com if you ever have any specific questions. Can't promise to know the answer, but I'll be happy to share what I know. :) #1099
