This is really neat Stephen. Can I ask what your settings were? Thanks. #152620

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

With the Sony, I use a B+W 093 infrared filter (equivalent to a Wratten 87C). I also had a ND8 filter on top because it was so bright out the morning I took the picture. The settings on the camera were f2.0 at 1/60s. #675794

I enjoyed browsing your wonderful gallery images and was particularly impressed with this effective use of infrared. Our club had a speaker on the technique last month and I was left with the impression that to do infrared digitally you need to convert your camera somehow, but if I understand your response here, you created this with a Sony digital and a special filter? #1400493

Thanks Judith. You are right. With the Sony Cybershot, you can use a standard Infrared filter. This camera is unique in that there is a setting for night shooting. In this mode, the camera will swing the built in IR blocking filter inside of the camera out of the way. This allows all incoming light to hit the camera's CCD chip. In order to take an IR picture, you simply need to block all or a portion of the visible light. I typically use the B+W 093 filter as wells as a set of neutral density filters to hold back the IR intensity in varying lighting conditions. It works and it is a lot of fun. Glad to hear from you. Keep shooting! #1400682

I can't thank you enough for your informative response. I will pass your explanation along to our members in the next club newsletter (Gaithersburg Camera Club, MD) and direct them to your gallery to check out your fine examples of this other digital option for infrared! Thanks again, Stephen. #1401822
