This was my first attempt at converting to black and white. I'd love some cc. I didn't do much. I used hue/saturation and played around with it, increased the contrast, and added a gradient map.

ISO 200, f/4.0, 1/320

I'd say your first attempt is excellent! Some of the highlights look a little blown out ... but it might have been intentional, and I personally like it very much!

But I think the most important part of getting a good black and white is having a great picture with great lighting to begin with -- I think you have that here. That is possibly the reason you found it so easy to convert.
