The image uploader may soften the pictures, if it has to resize them. If you want to play with it a bit, try making your image just a tad bit smaller than the size at which the uploader automatically shrinks your picture to fit the ideal photo size on Betterphoto. In other words, look at your already-uploaded picture, see how big it is, open your original pic in a photo-editing program, and resize it so it's just smaller, maybe even by 1 pixel on each side. They have a new uploader now, but it might do the same softening as the old one through interpolation, and what not, when resizing.
