This was done in Photoshop. I took the original image and desaturated it. Then I made a new layer. I used the gradient tool and adjusted it to the desired colors. I used the elliptical marquee tool to make the sun. Then flattened the image and cleaned it up.

I hope this helps!! I learned to do this on my own, so it's hard to explain. I'm so glad all of you like this effect!!!
