Tibetan Monk

Uploaded: May 02, 2007

Description

This photo was taken in a Tibetan Monastery that recently reopened after years of being shut down by the communist government. To me, this photo represents all that I love about the Tibetan people and their beautiful culture as a whole. Even after all the recent hardships, religious persecution, loss of freedoms, and death they have faced as a result of the Chinese occupation, they still live their lives with compassion, pride, and most of all, with a smile on their face.

Beautiful composition, and the cat just adds to this wonderful image. I have studied with Tibetan monks who were in prison for 20 plus years due to the Chinese occupation, and they are so present and joyful-amazes me. We are being blessed with a visit by the Dalai Lama tomorrow here in Northampton, MA! #4259403
