~Fire~

Uploaded: April 25, 2007

Description

This is my husband standing well down the hill from our back fence line last night. This was a controlled fire done by the Parks and Forest dudes because of the drought and because of so much dry debris on the forest floor. These guys are awesome!!They spent the whole day before catching koalas and bandicoots from the park to take them to safety before the fire. The most amazing thing was watching the fire and seeing these amazing, huge owls in front of the fire waiting for the rodents to come running from it. Apparently it's the only time they eat them on the ground!

WOW, Lynne - FABULOUS capture...AND narrative, too!! Whereabouts do you live? It must still be dry there... Where we are here near Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle, thankfully we've had a LOVELY lot of rain over the last few days!! We hope you get some soon, too!! :o) #643953

Thankyou so much Carolyn and Dominick!
Carolyn, I live in S.A. in the Adelaide Hills with the national park behind and to our side. We have had no rain other than a few short spits for I don't remember how long. We are due for a good 50 mls in the next few days, fingers crossed! We have had so many roos coming in for food and there have been a lot of koalas on the ground too because the trees are so dry. The fire went from 3.00 till early hours this morning. I took a walk through the park this morning and it felt so eerie and looked so barren but at least it's not as bad as a bushfire would have been. I took about 100 shots of the fire and after and hope to get some when the new growth starts. HOPEFULLY that will be soon is we get rain. Nice to hear from another Aussie on BP! Cheers! #4209802

So cool. I live in CA and we are also short on rain. This summer they are expecting a huge fire season. #4250032

AWESOME shot, Lynne! Waaaaay too close, even though it was a controlled burn! They have a way of getting out of hand! So glad it turned out ok! Great shot! #4353616

Thanks Linda, Kristen and Pat! Ironically it has been raining hard since the fire! So much so that our driveway is now on the road out the front and our phone has been out for nearly two weeks! #4353780
