First time I've seen this--it's very powerful. The DOF on those never-ending bars strengthen both the story and the design. Wonderful detail and clarity on the paw. #4118332

John Caruso April 01, 2007

John Caruso April 02, 2007

Carol Teal April 02, 2007

Yes, I saw this under Editor's Picks too. A very emotional image John and I am so glad the dog found a good home. Being that my first career was a vet assistant, I really feel for the animals that are unwanted and unloved. Pet overpopulation is such a real problem that even if you emptied out all the shelters for a day, they would be full again in about a week or less. There are too many pets and not enough homes. Both my cats are spayed. #4123312

John Caruso April 03, 2007

Thanks for your message, Carol. I agree that overpopulation is a terrible problem. Fortunately, stride have been made in the past 10 years or so (at least here in Chicago), and overall shelter intake and euthanasia numbers have decreased while adoptions and spay/neuters have increased. Thanks again for looking! #4124703

Kara L. Hendricks April 04, 2007

Just saw this under Editors Pics... I love it John... The vertical crop makes ALL the difference.... You have a winner...:) #4130408

John Caruso April 04, 2007

Wow, thanks Kara! You make me blush! #4130431

Mitch Spence level-classic April 13, 2007

I really love that you made the paw so small in the photo. It emphasizes the isolation of this pup. You know, when I looked at the thumbnail, the shape of the paw looks like a small animal with its nose sticking out. #4163426

John Caruso April 13, 2007

Thanks Mitch! As always, I apprecaite you taking a look. I never realized that about the thumbnail...I'll have to look at it with fresh eyes! Thanks again. #4163503

I have to go on record as being with those who think you have a winner here, John. Every time I see this photo--which was fairly frequently when it was in Editor's Picks and is now every time I open this discussion thread to read the new posts :) --I like it more. It's like a really good book that just keeps speaking to you. I really hope the judges experienced this as they worked their way from semi-semi-finalists to finalists. #4171579

Thanks so much, Datha, SuSana, and Nikki! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your very kind words. #4173931

Carol Teal April 16, 2007

I agree with Mitch that in the thumbnail it looks like a small animal (I thought a ferret at first). This is a very moving image John. #4174312
