That's a really neat effect! I just recently purchased Photoshop and I'm not that good at it yet. Hopefully I can do stuff like this in the future....In the meantime, I just sit in awe and the talent that you and so many others have at this digitl stuff. ^_^ #628569

It is a nice effect that you did Eleanor. Unfortunately though you burnt out the highlights and the image itself lacks some sharpness. It looks much better in the thumbnail than in the fullsize version. #4110208

Lydia, Thank you for looking at my photo and saying it is neat. I am struggling with filters and how they work. Keep experimenting with all of them. I too sat in awe just a short while ago. Keep practicing and you will create beautiful pictures, Eleanor

Peter, Thank you so much for your valued advice. I am still trying to experiment with filters in Photoshop and not getting it quite right. Maybe the original image lacked sharpness necessary for this technique?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Eleanor #4110282

Eleanor I don't think the problem is with the filters as such. I find the best way to do lighting effects is to forget all about the Light->render options as you can't really see the effect until after you have done it. Try creating a new layer and setting the blending mode to overlay. You can then paint on the layer with black to darken and white to lighten and you can use different brushes at different opacities to give you more control AND you can modify the effects very easily.
Have a look at the tutorials at www.russellbrown.com. They are extremely good and very easy to follow and he actually explains WHY he is doing something.
Sharpness is something altogether different. If you have the original image send it to me and I will see what I can do with it. Keep the file size down to something like 250kb! #4110296

Wow Peter, thank you for all your advice. Sounds complicated but I am going to work on it. I will re-try using layers which I did not do in the first place. I will look at website you suggest. I am new to BetterPhoto. How do I send you copy of my original?? Eleanor #4110342
