"LIGHT FROM WITHIN"

Gave my rose a glow from within using Photoshop filters.

It is a nice effect that you did Eleanor. Unfortunately though you burnt out the highlights and the image itself lacks some sharpness. It looks much better in the thumbnail than in the fullsize version. #4110208Eleanor M. Perrotta March 29, 2007
Lydia, Thank you for looking at my photo and saying it is neat. I am struggling with filters and how they work. Keep experimenting with all of them. I too sat in awe just a short while ago. Keep practicing and you will create beautiful pictures, EleanorEleanor M. Perrotta March 29, 2007
Peter, Thank you so much for your valued advice. I am still trying to experiment with filters in Photoshop and not getting it quite right. Maybe the original image lacked sharpness necessary for this technique?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Eleanor #4110282Peter R. Hammer March 29, 2007
Eleanor I don't think the problem is with the filters as such. I find the best way to do lighting effects is to forget all about the Light->render options as you can't really see the effect until after you have done it. Try creating a new layer and setting the blending mode to overlay. You can then paint on the layer with black to darken and white to lighten and you can use different brushes at different opacities to give you more control AND you can modify the effects very easily.Eleanor M. Wow Peter, thank you for all your advice. Sounds complicated but I am going to work on it. I will re-try using layers which I did not do in the first place. I will look at website you suggest. I am new to BetterPhoto. How do I send you copy of my original?? Eleanor #4110342Jessica Jenney March 30, 2007
