300 mm and hand held? Its hard to tell on lo res images on this site but it looks fairly crisp. What did you do to keep yourself steady? (Birds are hard, aren't they? always moving!) #459657

I actually had a total of 960mm when you combine the 2x Extender and add-in the Canon 10D 1.6x smaller cmos sensor.

But back to the question you asked. I have been taking sharp handheld images like this with the combination of alot of patience and learning my own style and with Canon's(IS)ImageStabilazation which is GOD Send. If I am hand holding I alway make sure there is enought light to make my shutter speed above 125th/sec.
