A lovely bird Jack! Great detail and capture! I have yet to see one of these in real life, and was just reading today about how there are 3 (known) ones in our immediate area, but it was said that one breeding pair could never reestablish the population here. There are some in other regions nearby, but from the article, it seems they are disappearing, which is sad.

The FWC and State Parks are really doing a good job at re-establishing their habitat. Along with Merritt Island NWR, there are several state parks spending a good deal of money on restoring the habitat to allow them to prosper. If you get a chance to go to Oscar Scherer State Park (near Sarasota) you will get to see one, or most likely several. They tend to be their own worst enemy, since they are very friendly and will take food out of your hand and land on your head if you don’t watch out.

Thank you again for your comments and interest.
