Just a little something different that I've been wanting to shoot, as I drive so many country roads during the day for work.

CC Welcome. Did I do a little better with the white on this one? To be honest I edited this one on my laptop, so I probably should have checked it on the desktop. #538747Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 13, 2006
My husband prefered this shot. Still looking for CC. #3445961Tom Roe October 13, 2006
Well... Both are great shots. I do have some suggestions. In the top photo, I think it would look better with a dark, darker background. The subject itself looks fine. The bottem image's background is much better, but the subject placement should be less centered.... say in the upper left or right.
Both are great photos, and I can't wait to see you edited/ re-attempt these.

Man, you're making me work, Tom!!Ok, I can fix the centering part. Suggestions on how to darken the background on the first? I think the darker background is why my husband liked the second better as well.

Yes, I'm just getting into layers more. #3446267Tom Roe October 13, 2006
Make two layers... one for background and one for cotton. Use gradient or other tools to darken the background that way. Change opicity to your liking. At least that's how I would do it. #3446272Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 13, 2006
Duh! Yea, that makes sense. Ok, but you'll have to wait on that one. I'm to tired to do that right now. :P #3446276Tom Roe October 13, 2006
K... good luck and happy editing. #3446279Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 13, 2006
If I can't figure it out, you coming over to help? LOL! #3446537Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 14, 2006
Could someone give me a quick how to on separating the two so I can have them as separate layers? I haven't done it before, and really want to give this a try. You can email me if that's easiest. I'll be your best friend forever if ya help me. ;) #3448303Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 14, 2006
Tom emailed me that he'll give me a step by step. So I'm covered. Be looking for the results. Guess I'll have to get off the couch and go to the desktop so I have my pen/tablet. ;)Well, actually I do have a pen/tablet for the laptop too, but it's smaller and I don't like it as much as the larger one at the desk. #3449211Carol Teal October 15, 2006
Nice Tricia! I like the 2nd one best too and especially after you cropped it. It looks just as if you could pluck it off and use it! #3450796Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 15, 2006
Thank you Carol!! Ever since I moved to the south I have been fascinated by cotton fields. #3452532Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 15, 2006
The first one is in progress, being redone with a darker background. Just needs a little tweeking yet. #3453249Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 15, 2006
Just testing. My email notifications haven't been coming so I switched them to a different email account. I want to see if I get notified of this post. #3453273Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 15, 2006
This is the remake, thanks to Tom's guidance of the first shot. Hope you like it. It's not perfect, but I'm learning.#3453463

You're right, it's not perfect... but a great job on a first try. I like this better. #3453489Tricia L. Olson-Giles October 15, 2006
Thanks Tom. With more practice I'm sure it will get easier. It was a GREAT learning experience, now I just have to hone the skills you've taught me. #3453497Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
