Of all the wonderful pix in your gallery, I think I'd place this one as favourite.

What lens were you using here? The DoF is truly amazing.

Thankyou so much, it is actually my favourite too. This was done in Photoshop 9.00 (CS2) before the 9.02 upgrade that obeyed the EXIF white balance. The real colours were purple and gold but I left them like this as it appears cleaner.

The lens was my wonderful Nikkor 200, F4 Micro, Gitzo 1227 with a markins M10 ball head.

I just love shooting with this lens. Not only is the DoF tiny the out of focus elements are soft but also free of coloration. I also love the out of focus elements of my 85mm 1.4 but the out of focus elements in front of the focus position are tinged magenta and the ones behind, green. This 200mm is a joy. The picture is full sized; not cropped at all and at 17" by 24" printed on a Canon IPF 5000 has even more sharpnes and bite then the compressed JPEGs shown here.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

I'll reply bit by bit here - and thank you for replying to my comments on various of your photos!

I am using CS2 - not aware there *is* an upgrade? Currently I am using the free downloadable Adobe LightRoom BETA 4 to do my RAW conversions, and it's a dream of an application. I will certainly be first in line when it comes onto the market in February/March '07. It's great for sampling white balance and manually balancing to the exact Kelvin, if you so wish :-)

While I do not have either the 200mm nor the 85 F1.4 (WOW!) it is generally regarded that the primes deliver greater sharpness.

I do find the Nikon has a leaning toward the magentas. I also shoot with a Canon 30D and the colour representation is quite different between the two systems.

Okay - let me go talk to you on the other images :-) I'm totally new here, still need to find my way around, but your work just stood out immediately.
