Refueling
Uploaded: July 12, 2006
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail stops to sip nectar from a coneflower in my backyard. The cloudy day actually worked to my advantage because the diffuse lighting is much more flattering to the butterfly than harsh sunlight. Taken using my Sigma 70-200EX lens: 1/320s f/5.6 at 251.0mm iso400.

Beautful image, Bill! #3019610Bill K. Ko July 12, 2006
Thank you, Derek! The butterfly made it happen, not me - it decided to choose one of the tallest of the flowers, so the angle was just incredible. I was just in the right place at the right time. :)Molli:
I really appreciate that you took time to comment on the photo. This little picture does nothing for the original. Thank you very much!
Aimee:
Thank you for the compliment. I really didn't know how beautiful the photo turned out until I opened it up in the editor. :)
Bridgette:
Thank you very much! I was so nervous that I wouldn't get the picture because I had to circle around to find just the right angle and just the right backdrop. The only other choice I had was with a car in the background. If that was my only choice, I wouldn't be posting the picture. ;) I did take bunches of shots to make sure I came away with SOMEthing, though. It's better to have a poor shot of an excellent opportunity than none at all.
For you who may have noticed that the EXIF info shows a focal length that exceeds that of the lens that I used, that's because I had stacked a 2x teleconverter on the lens. :)

Beautiful image Bill! Great clarity, detail and color. #3020752Bill K. Ko July 12, 2006
Mary, Judy, Brian:The only thing I contributed to the photo was the framing of the picture. The camera, lens and butterfly did the hard work. ;)
