I'd come upon this heron just as he regurgitated the remains of a crab or two. I actually photographed him up-chucking...lol.

Then he went back into the water and was "crabbing for more" when I pretty much lost a clear view of him. I waited patiently, then he returned with this in his mouth.

At one point he dropped the crab, and it escaped into the nearby water. The heron was quick to recover it though. Then he proceeded to toss it to the ground repeatedly, and jabbed at it with his beak. Stunning the crab, he ate the legs first, then eventually devoured the entire thing.

It wasn't until I saw the picture at home that I realized the crab had a hold of the heron's tongue with his pincher. OUCH!!!! #2935322
