Amazing colors. #443570

Hi, thank you for your interest in the "Hot Sun", it was taken a couple of days ago, when finally I decided to get up early and shoot a whole 36 poses of the sun rise. On this particular shoot, I used a A125 filter, which is interesting because the filter is kind of brownish... #2750943

I thought it was a sunset; anyway, I love the colors and the sun on the water. I like the little bit of tree fronds in the foreground. Where was this taken? #2750970

Alex F.R. Templet May 11, 2006

The picture was taken in florida, on the east coast, Pompano Beach to be exact and it was well before 8.00 AM, the filter gives this rich sunset look doesn't it... #2750995

Yes it does, very nicely done. I really enjoy taking sunset photos and have been saying I will get up one morning and shoot some at sunrise (but I hate mornings!) I am near Tampa myself and the sunsets were extremely nice in Jan. and Feb. A weatherman in AL where I lived last said this about sunsets when I asked him: "The best sunsets are with dry air and mid and high clouds..like cirrus and altocumulus. Florida has a lot of convective clouds and they also tend to make a good sunset. The high clouds are made of ice crystals which act like prisms to break the light into its component colors."
I will be right there again this fall/winter capturing more spectacular sunsets, and maybe I will drag myself out of bed to do a sunrise; however, I don't have a filter for my camera as it is just an automatic. :(

It was the first time I dragged myself out of bed so early for a photo shoot, sad innit.. but definitely worth it, will happyly do it again...
You've got some great sunset pictures indeed, very artistic, I've got a coolpix too, but never realized how nice the picture could come out. Will use it more often for this kind of work, if you think that out of 36 poses I took that morning, only a very few made it to the album...

I know how that goes Alex; I take 50+ of sunsets sometimes; however, the ones I don't post are photographer errors, not the camera! My coolpix does do well with landscapes where I don't have to get up close. The 3x optical lens does not allow me to shoot wildlife, but it even takes nice photos up closer if I don't have to worry about my subject fleeing. I think the Coolpix produces very nice photos with rich, true colors, and I like the modes on mine. I set mine on sunset mode when I photograph them, which gives a more vibrant-colored sky. I do have to sharpen everything though, but hear that is common with digital. I have many more sunsets that I haven't had time to post here yet, and so many I can't put them all in my gallery. I may have to scrape up the money soon for a bigger gallery! Thanks for taking time to look through my photos, and I appreciate the compliment! #2751234

Carol, which one is the sunset mode, is it the little icon with the star? Or do you have to go in the menu? I just use the coolpix to do snapshot and souvenir and never really paid attention to the programs it offers, got to investigate now... #2751286

Mine has a dial on the back with a green camera icon which is regular mode, then it has the word "scene" which I can set it on and then push menu to get into the modes. I have 15 modes I think, sunset, fireworks, nightscapes, museum, etc. Once I move it to sunset, I have to press the middle button on another round dial in the middle of the back of the camera, if not, then it doesn't stay on the chosen mode. A little sunset icon shows up on my LCD screen on the left top corner when I have it set on that mode and whatever mode you use is shown there. I am not sure I have a little icon with a star, though maybe that it what this one icon is, but it is quite dark in this room and cloudy outside so I am not sure and don't know what that mode is. I have temporarily lost my documentation since moving. Is yours the exact same model, the 4100? #2751403

Alex F.R. Templet May 11, 2006

That's great Carol, never paid attention to that, I do have the scene mode which leads me to 13 options, including the SUNSET one...Thank you, that's great
I've got the COOLPIX 4600,pretty much the same I believe, and the documentation is long gone, probably still wrapped up in the original box, I should really start reading the manual, bought a new Minolta Dynax 4 yesterday, $80 quite a bargain, and it would be wise to go through the documentation I guess wouldn't it... #2751435

Love the warm colours in this photo Alex, and nicely framed too (ac) #2751762

Carol Teal May 11, 2006

Yes, reading the manual sometimes helps! lol Glad you found what you needed on the Coolpix, so I will be watching for more sunset and sunrise photos! #2752206
