This photo is composed of three close-up images of a match in different 'states'.

Each shot suggests a different 'state' of a match: unlit, ignite, and full burn - independent periods of a match captured for this detailed series.

The three photos were taken with a Canon A620 using an additional SYSTEM 600 WATT Studio Flash with Snoot. A word of caution when photographing matches: when the match ignites, the chemicals fog out in all directions and if you are shooting close, a thin film of foggy material will coat the glass on your lens or filter. The second phase (middle image) is also the most difficult to capture as it happens very quickly and lasts only a short time. The three images were put together using Paint Shop Pro.
