October sky.....

Uploaded: October 10, 2003

Description

I took this photo last weekend at the edge of a withering sunflower field.....I had high hopes of capturing a beautiful sunflower image but found this tree to be more interesting. I used a 17-40mm wide angle lens and a Red/Green Cokin Polarizer, which gave it a "sunset" appearance. It was actually taken early afternoon, on a cloudy day with just enough sun peaking through to give it some drama. The exposure was unrecorded.

Lovely image, Charlotte! The silhouettes and colour are beautiful--and I would never have guessed that this photo hadn't been taken at sunset, if you hadn't mentioned that it hadn't! #228496

GREAT WORK this is wonderful! It´s true that we would think of a sunset of course, is this the filter effect? On a cloudy day?

Wow! What wonderful comments. Thank you Roseann, Gerda, Bill and Susana. Im tickled you all like this image. I really had no idea what effect I would achieve with this filter because it was the first time I had used it. My best friend and I where taking pictures together, the filter belongs to him and he suggested I try it.....thanks Matt! Bill, it's funny that you'd want to know more about this place. It's just a field, right off the highway, outside of a town in KY. It was a bit of a scavenger hunt for us, which was inspired by another good friend who knew I had my heart set on a sunflower photo. He had noticed the field on one of his bike rides and told us where to look. We've been meaning to go find the place for some time now. Most people would say....it's really "nowhere special" but isn't it great, that through Photography...."nowhere special" can definaely be transformed into a mirage of somewhere magical. Thanks again! ;o) #228723

The silhouettes look great with that dramatic color in the background.
Beautiful composition, as well.

Great image! I think you did a wonderful job with my polarizer definetly better than my use of it that day. You can use it any time your heart desires. I read the comment you were talking about, it's great. Great picture I always enjoy looking at your images. #229053
