Andrew,
Wow, this is realy, realy, good.
Were you in a blind? I tryed to get something like this in Yellowstone. I couldn't get close enough ( no trees to hide behind I guess lol. At 300 mm you had to be very close.

I don't think the problem was light, I think your white balance is off. I think this can easily be rectified in Photoshop. Especially if you shot it in Raw. #3599598
