Wonderful. I really like the shadowing which gives the blues one more dynamic hue, as a backdrop to the strong yellow and red colors of the womans dress. Was the sky originally this muted? Again, great composition. Brent #97395

I like the colours and the shadows, but why chose to blur the woman? #609405

Hi Everyone,

The sky is muted because it was taken with a polarizing filter. The original shot showed the woman very sharp; I blurred it using Photoshop as an illustration for one of my classes.

Hi Jim,
I agree with everyone - what an eye-catching photo! I love the bold colors ... as well as the dynamic sense of motion going on here.

In fact, this image makes a great selection for BetterPhoto's monthly "Where in the World?" quiz. It will be featured in the new issue of BP's PhotoFlash newsletter.

So please don't give away the location, Jim - let's see if anyone can come up with the correct answer! I'll check back later to see how things are going.

And, for everyone else, have fun guessing where this scene can be found!

The combination of prime colors Yellow,Red and Blue is brilliant. The color of the shadow which is also in Blue adds to the dramatic impact as if she is walking towards sky, using ladder steps from the ground. It might have been taken in either Gujarat or Rajasthan of India. Such deep wells can also be found in some parts of South India.I am from Hyderabad,India. #1327169

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking part in BetterPhoto's "Where in the World?" quiz! Yes, indeed, it's India ... here's more from Jim Z:

"This was taken in a small village in Rajasthan. There is a tribe of
people in Gujurat where the women dress in colorful clothing similar to
this, but it's definitely different."

Thanks again, everyone ... and, again Jim, an awesome photo!

Regards,
Kerry
