This image was captured in one of my all time favorite places, Alaska! I was onboard the MV Northern Song, captained by Dennis Rogers on a 7-day excursion in Frederick Sound. Dennis found a clear deep blue iceberg that had calved from LeConte glacier and was floating in LeConte Bay. The wonderful play of sunlight through the crystal clear glacial ice was accented by the smooth stones, sculpted by the movement of the glacier through the mountains and nestled in the cavities of the ice. They had emerged from their icy tomb within the glacier as it melted in the cold waters of the bay. We were witness to a special but transient moment that I captured in this image. The iceberg was about 20 feet tall when we first encountered it, but was rapidly melting and by the next day had melted to half its size. I’m sure in another day or two it was engulfed by the tidal waters with the debris becoming part of the stony floor of the bay. It was a special moment preserved. #11902915
