Purple Finch

The record cold and snow this year have been very hard on the birds. We've found several dead close to the house: pine siskins, goldfinch, purple finch, and heard of many dead bluebirds. Many less coming to the feeders than before. The larger birds seemed to fare better. (Animals)

Thanks so much Bob, Terry and Martha! This weather was record-breaking for our area, -5 degrees and 14+ inches of snow. I just read about some robins and other larger birds that also didn't make it.. #11878622Janet Criswell February 23, 2021

Congratulations, Janet on your wonderful photo's selection for Gold! We too lost some Pine Siskins this year. The state wildlife experts said it was likely due to salmonellosis combined with cold weather and told us to bring in our feeders for 3 weeks. We'll put them back out on Easter Sunday. #11888591Adilson F. Ferreira April 01, 2021
