Description

Constructed by British engineers starting in 1690 to defend the island against the sea. Work on the construction and later maintenance by African slaves. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the best preserved forts in the Americas. The building blocks are cut from volcanic stone, which is what the hill it is on is composed of.
