Description

This lubber grasshopper (Romalea guttata) is investigating a cactus and seems to have no trouble with the spines. The colorful, robust lubber is native to the southeastern and south central United States. Their colors vary but are always bright and distinctive, and I always enjoy spotting one. Gardeners are often not as enthralled with them as they are reported to have very large appetites for vegetation. Category: Let's Learn About Bugs (details/macro)
