Zebra Longwing

Description

The zebra longwing is the state butterfly of Florida. That tinge of orange on this one's wings is not part of the normal coloration. I'm thinking it must be from the flowers. This bloom is a lantana, which is supposedly classed as an invasive plant here. I think almost nobody pays any attention to that though, as I see them everywhere, including public gardens. Mitch, great image very sharp, I know what you mean aboout classified weeds... I have posted here 3 shots of the Wild Thistle Weed that Butterflies love as do bees. The state wants to eradicate them as do farmers... go figure something that looks great ... A FAV << #11815370

Nice capture and thanks for the good info! I didn't know lantana was classified invasive. We used to have them in our yard in Florida years ago. They're pretty! #11815372
