Description

Early morning chores in the 1930's & 1940's in rural VA might include washing clothes w/ a washboard in a porcelain pan. These two models are scrubbing their clothes on a glass washboard. Metal was scarce during WW2 & glass washboards became extremely popular until metal became available again. The only remaining washboard manufacturer in the US is the Columbus Washboard Co in Ohio which has been making washboards since 1895 & the maker of the one shown. The sun is my 'one light source' shining through the trees as seen on the white handkerchief. Not the best example nonetheless my offering of the week. Settings: F4.5 1/500 iso400 @35mm w/ tripod Many thanks to Margaret Watt for loaning me her mom's porcelain pan & to Catherine Mack for the washboard:)
