Shwe sun nyo Game

Literal translation: “golden brown kite”
Briefly: “Traditional tag”

This game follows a traditional story – of an evil hawk that tries to eat a family’s youngest child – and is best played with six or seven players. Both males and females may participate. One player assumes the role of the attacking bird of prey, while the others line up behind each other; the team-leader stands in front with arms outstretched to block the villainous kite. The target (typically the youngest player) sits safely at back of chain. The hawk must tag (“eat”) the target, while the defenders must shuffle, jibe, and swing around to prevent this. A traditional call-and-response song between the attacker and defenders accompanies the game.
