Description

The oldest house in North Pomfret, Vermont, has been in my family for over 100 years. My great-uncle bought it for his bride, my great-aunt, just before shipping out in World War I. He wanted to know she had a safe place to live, a place of her own, in the event he didn't return. He DID return, alive and well, and they lived out their lives in this spot. My mother, a city-dweller, spent her childhoods here, and I remember many a childhood summer vacation.
Fabulous memories of early mornings warming up by the wood stove, the only source of heat, blueberry pancakes, music, dancing, croquet on the lawn, and my great-uncle Stan's electric train collection in the "little house" out back. We finally decided we had to put the house on the market last fall.
