Anahuac Dancer

Uploaded: December 12, 2005

Description

The senorita in the image is one of the Folkloric Anahuac Dancers. Like whirling dervishes, they twirl about the stage, their colorful dresses creating a beautiful visual display. Anahuac is a Nahuatl Indian word of Aztec origin, meaning country by the waters. Its literal definition refers to the extensive plateau of central Mexico. The dances have a spiritual origin, as the natives honored the Earth and the Aztec God, Ometeotl. This dancer was photographed in a Christmas play, Dec 11, 2005 in Punta Banda, Baja CA.
